The petrol shortages entered in 8th consecutive day on Tuesday as there was no petrol on almost 60 percent filling stations of all the cities of the province due to the non-supply of oil from the oil refineries. According to the Senior Vice President of Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association Chaudhry Sadiq, they saw no possibility of betterment in the situation in the near future until two to three big oil consignment will reach Karachi port.

He said that another factor behind this situation is the panic among people who were not ready to trust the petrol pump owners. Sadiq said that they are facing petrol shortage from May 22 and they had asked the government to take steps otherwise, this shortage will turn into a crisis but government had taken no steps.

He also said that when they contacted the government officials, they only said that situation will improve in two or three days but they will trust them unless the supply will be improved. In Lahore, people were badly affected due to the petrol crisis because of the weekly gas load management being observed by CNG stations on Mondays and Tuesdays. People face difficulties in reaching their work places especially, the labour class was badly affected as there was very thin public transport in the city.

The problem of over charging was also faced by the people as the transporters had increased the fares of their own. Whereas major supply of Pakistan State Oil was fixed for the posh areas of the provincial metropolis, which was the main cause of panic in the city.

Petrol pumps of DHA, Model Town, Gulberg and other posh localities 70 percent of the petrol is being provided by the PSO (the only supplier of the current days),” disclosed by Association sources. Sources further said that other areas were either deprived or provided with minimum requirement, for example about eight to 10 PSO pumps around Chaubrugi were running dry all the day. Sources also said that other than PSO petrol pumps of almost all the companies were dry.
